Video Producer Young WallacePens down a letter: DEAR GROOVE AWARDS:

A few years back, gospel had dominated the music industry as compared to secular. This is why.....Secular industry back then had key figures who were termed as the big fish who were the only ones controlling the airwaves. It wasn't accommodating new talent and that was the cancer that was killing the industry slowly. As the big fish were busy blocking the new artists from making it to the airwaves, the gospel side was busy nurturing new talent with the likes of Rufftone and the few. Which gave birth to the new generation of the gospel industry. So as thesecular side was busy dying, gospel was busy multiplying and feeling the airwaves with fresh vybes.Right now, unfortunately, it's the other way round for the gospel industry.

The new generation started focusing on individual goals of each wanting to become the best with the biggest name in the industry. I'm not only talking of artists but also producers and DJs. That led to formation of certain "units" of whichI still believe has given birth to rivalry between gospel artists, djs and even producers. It's a huge shame to see a big event such as GROOVE AWARDS entertaining such separations in the gospel industry instead of unifying them all since they are all supposed to share one common factor, spreading the gospel and winning souls. Such groups have brought alot of politics in the industry and that's why I had to stop calling myself a "GOSPEL video producer" coz enyewe I have worked so hard without favours from anyone to associate myself with such cheap politics.
So to GROOVE AWARDS, reconciliation is really needed among the gospel artists. Someone needs to talk and since you have the influence, DO SOMETHING insteadof entertaining them with awards. At the moment, secular industry is beginning totake over as gospel artists continue with their politics. Right now the gospel industry has big brands but the problem is that most of the big brands are USELESS.
A brand should use its favors and powers to make a difference and more so make it abit easier for new upcoming artists to penatrate the tough market. Instead, the "BIG BRANDS" are making it almost impossible. I do videos almost everyday, some of the artists hustle real hard to get that one video that you have just trashed in your dustbin.
Some parents even go an extra mile and apply for loans so they can see their children's dreams come true. If you can't play the video, explain to the artists where the problem is. Correct his mistakes and even mineas a producer. That way we won't get bored of seeing the same same faces on our TV screens and on the GROOVE AWARDS winners list.
I'm even tired of seeing "BARUA" every second on air! Kwani that's the only video I did last year???Right now the secular industry has focused on expanding it's borders. That's why you see the big fish collaborating with upcoming artists. Eg. Fimbo ya Tatu... That's why you see the big DJs giving platform to the new talent E.g Kaytrixx Spincycle which has given my friend Lexx Montana a platform and he was once a dish cleaner in a bar and right now he's becoming one of the best DJs in town. Examples are manysiwwzi maliza.
Infact there is more love in the secular industry compared to gospel. That explains why Bahati's ASANTE MATHARE was fullof secular artists and barely no gospel artist. To all the BIG BRANDS in the gospel industry including GROOVE AWARDS, embrace new talent instead of wasting time and fighting for supremacy.
Which supremacy are you fighting for in the first place na hata border hujavuka??? To GROOVE AWARDS, why do you have to involve other countries which are not even interested to know about our industry??? Why do our neighbors hold their awards without involving a single Kenyan in them. I don't see any sense unless y'all are just business minded.
Why are we still awarding this big Djs??? Their brands are so big they can open up a radio station and still get a massive following! They can use that opportunity to give airtime to these new talents that end up giving up hope in their dreams! But they can't think about all these coz all they have focused on is the"award"! What a shame! Why are we even celebrating 10 years of grooveand we don't even have a foundation that can support new talent yet. What positive impact is it bringing to our artists??? Coz all I'm seeing is artists using any means possible so as to win and become supreme.
You recently abolished nomination of certain categories and termed them as "SPECIAL AWARDS". Yes... Sammy Dee won... but who was with him in that category? Was he alone??? Teddy B won.... against who????My point is... there are many upcoming producers out there but how is that category helping them in identifying if they are in the correct path?? How will they know they are doing a quality job. Does it mean that since Sammy Dee and Teddy B are winners today, all the producers in Kenya are pathetic???? For your information, producers are the guys who work really hard, most, sacrificing their personal lives to make sure content is available and of high quality. Without content, the industry can't exist. Without the industry, goodbye GROOVE AWARDS!!!So I'd rather you don't nominate me next time, but reintroduce those slots for our fellow upcoming producers. They need to understand their growth pattern. #MyOpinionPART II COMING SOON.
