National Council for Persons with Disabilities Job Vacancies

The National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) is a State Corporation established in November, 2004 by an Act of Parliament (Persons with Disabilities Act 2003) with the mandate to formulate and implement policies that are geared towards mainstreaming persons with disabilities to the National economy. 

To achieve this mandate, the Board seeks to fill the following positions which have fallen vacant

1.     Sign Language Interpreter – 2 position
2.     Legal Officer – 1 position

JOB SUMMARIES
SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER –NCPD 6 – (2positions)
Job summary
Reporting to the Chief HRM&A Officer, an officer at this level will be responsible for translating spoken word into sign language and vice versa, while providing cultural mediation, as Deaf culture, like any other culture, has its own norms and values, and at times, the interpreter mediates those values.

Core duties and Responsibilities
  • translating the spoken word into sign language and vice versa;
  •  conduct research on current trends on access to communication and cascading the same to stakeholders;
  • Mediating the deaf culture
  •  conduct research on technical information or complex information to gain an understanding of what will be interpreted;
  • assist to provide regular sensitization to the staff on basic sign language;
  • advice for the rights of the deaf in the provision of accessible information by all;
  • Responsible for creating a training plan for teaching staff on KSL;
·       The individual will carry out regular research on current trends and conduct sensitizations to the staff.
  • Any other duty as may be assigned

Job requirements
The successful candidate shall be a Kenyan citizen with:
·       Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) C or its equivalent from a recognized Institution
·       Basic training in Sign Language Interpretation;
·       Two(2) years’ experience in a busy Sign Language Interpretation environment;
·       Good listening skills.
·       Good communication skills.
·       Observe strict confidentiality,
·       Conduct should be above reproach.
·       Should not interfere, advice, or interject personal opinions into interpreted situations.

Terms of service: Permanent & Pensionable

     Basic Salary Ksh. 41,590 x 2,070 – 43,660 x 2,220 – 45,880 x 2,310 – 48,190 x 2,400 -50,590 x 2,550 – 53,140 x 2,700 – 55,840 p.m    
     Allowances
       House Allowance- 20,000 /= p.m
       Commuter Allowance – 8,000 /= p.m

LEGAL OFFICER – NCPD 6 – 1position

Job summary
Reporting to the Senior Legal Officer, an officer at this level will be responsible for ensuring proactive and timely handling of all legal matters relating to the Council in a manner that facilitates effective operationalization of the Council’s functional strategy and objectives.
Core duties and Responsibilities
  • Drawing all contracts, agreements, memoranda;
  • Protecting and registering Intellectual Property Rights for persons with disabilities;
  • Advising Persons with Disabilities on legal issues;
  • Representing persons with disabilities in court;
  • Preparing Legislation and Gazettement issues of the Council.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned

Job requirements
The successful candidate shall be a Kenyan citizen with:
·       Bachelor Degree in Law (LLB);
·       Diploma in Legal Studies (Kenya School of Law);
·       An advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
·       Member of the Law Society of Kenya
·       Holder of a current practicing certificate.
·       Computer Application skills.
